Why SatyaSakshi built Praman: from field investigation to one platform
SatyaSakshi started in the field: verifying insurance claims, meeting families, visiting hospitals, checking documents and finding the gaps in stories. Over time the team saw the same patterns across very different cases, and the same problems with how verification was being done.
What the field taught us
- Fraud takes many forms. Hidden illness at proposal, staged accidents, altered bills, fake identities, inflated income. Each needs different questions.
- The first statement matters most. What a person says early, before stories are aligned, is the most valuable evidence.
- Travel is the bottleneck. Much of an investigator's time goes into reaching people, not talking to them.
- Records get lost. Notes, photos and documents were spread across phones, emails and paper.
The idea behind Praman
If most people now have a smartphone, most of the conversation an investigator has on a visit can happen on a video call. If the call is recorded with the person's consent, with their location and a face match, it becomes stronger evidence than a handwritten note. And if the right questions are built in for each kind of case, every verification is consistent.
What Praman does today
- Sends the person a WhatsApp link: no app to install.
- Runs a video call in their language, with AI asking questions designed for that case type.
- Captures consent, ID photos, face match, liveness and GPS location.
- Adds instant checks such as PAN, vehicle RC and others, with consent.
- Flags inconsistencies for a human reviewer, who signs the final report.
